Yu.L. Zabulonov is a leading scientist in the field of nuclear radiation physics. He made a significant contribution to the development of the physics theory of the interaction of radiation with solid bodies: he developed kinetic models of spatial energy dissipation of ions in a cascade of elastic and inelastic collisions with materials of various types, taking into account energy transfer by recoil atoms, scattering to any angles of displaced atoms, inelastic energy losses; based on them, he built a model of the evolution of radiation defects, which takes into account their diffusion, as well as the methods of a fundamentally new detector of β-particles based on C60 fullerite, etc.
